Janel Watt

Anti-D, Anti-C, Anti-G, Anti-S Antibodies

During the third trimester of her first pregnancy, Janel was given the news of her anti-D antibodies, after routine blood work. She had experienced minor bleeding during her first pregnancy and called her doctor’s office, but she was not given the RhoGAM shot. From then on, she became her own advocate and requested scans and appropriate treatment. By 39 weeks she was fortunate enough to welcome her healthy baby boy without intervention. In 2017, Janel became pregnant with her second child, Owen. She was aware of her anti-D antibodies and thought she had chosen a knowledgeable team of doctors for her treatment. By 28 weeks she was told that Owen needed an intrauterine blood transfusion (IUT). Sadly, after a failed IUT and emergency c-section Owen passed away. In 2020, Janel became pregnant with her third child, a rainbow baby girl. She found an experienced and knowledgeable team of doctors 2 hours from her home that she traveled to every week. By 29 weeks she needed her first intrauterine blood transfusion and by 32+1 weeks a second transfusion was needed. Both IUTs were successful. At 36 weeks her baby girl was delivered by vbac. She stayed in the NICU for one week and required phototherapy and 4 post-birth transfusions. Today, she is a very happy and healthy little girl. Janel graduated from Purdue University with an Interior Design degree. She works for her family’s engineering firm and enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.
