Casey Kelly
Casey Kelly lives with her husband, Colin, and their two daughters, Clare and Allison Pearl, in Sonora, CA. Casey’s first pregnancy in 2019 sadly ended in a miscarriage at 8 weeks, but she received RhIG afterwards as a precaution because her doctors knew she was Rh negative. A few months later, she became pregnant with her rainbow baby, Clare. This was a healthy pregnancy, but Casey suffered a significant post-partum hemorrhage after birth where she lost 2/3 of her total blood volume. Amazingly, she did not need a blood transfusion. She received RhIG routinely during and after this pregnancy.
During her 3rd pregnancy, in 2022, Casey found she had developed antibodies when her doctors ran an antibody screen at 27 weeks, in preparation to administer routine RhIG at 28 weeks. Her prenatal blood work at 10 weeks showed no antibodies. She has anti-D and anti-C antibodies. Her D titers were critical, so she began monitoring; everything went well, and no intervention was needed. Allison Pearl was born at 38 weeks. She received 5 days of triple photolight therapy, but at just 12 days old, at a routine pediatrician appointment, they were sent to the ER because Allison looked pale. She had her first blood transfusion at that time. She had a second transfusion at 28 days old, followed by Epogen injections.
Casey has become very passionate about improving the process of how this disease is treated and monitored, as well as blood and plasma donations. Plasma donations are critical to continue the production of plasma-derived medicines, like RhIG.
In her free time, she loves being outdoors with her family, reading, and country music concerts.
