Kate’s first baby, Emerson unexpectedly died at 14 weeks pregnant on July 7, 2022. After multiple missed Rhogam doses in her first and second pregnancies, Kate’s diagnosis of Anti-D and Anti-C antibodies was also missed in her second pregnancy. Kate did not receive any monitoring or treatment for HDFN and had no idea there was any reason to be concerned until she went in for decreased movement at 38 weeks and learned of her daughter’s passing. After her daughter, Josie Anne was stillborn on June 27, 2023 Kate was informed of her antibodies but given very little information. In the following weeks and months, Kate scoured the internet for answers, and eventually found the Allo Hope Foundation. She was so relieved to find so much information about the disease and a community of families who have been in her shoes. Now armed with the right information and an expert care team, Kate and her husband Dewayne are expecting their third baby (due summer 2024). So far, Kate has received 6 rounds of plasmapheresis and weekly IVIG for this pregnancy. Being a recipient of donor blood/plasma product, Kate has become passionate about organizing blood drives to pay back what is being given to her. She also created the My Allo Pregnancy Journal to help herself and other mothers keep track of all of the vital tests and information that comes up throughout an Allo pregnancy.
