Timothy M. Bahr, MD, MS
Timothy M. Bahr, MD, MS, is a neonatologist and Assistant Professor of Research at Intermountain Health and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine. His clinical and translational research focuses on neonatal hematology and transfusion medicine, with particular expertise in perinatal hemolytic disorders, including hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN), neonatal anemia, hyperbilirubinemia, iron metabolism, erythropoiesis-stimulating therapies, and transfusion practices for newborns.
Dr. Bahr earned a bachelor’s degree in statistics from Brigham Young University, a master’s degree in biostatistics from the University of Colorado Denver, and his medical degree from the University of Iowa. He completed his pediatrics residency at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Maricopa Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the University of Utah.
His HDFN scholarship includes research on outcomes of pregnancies complicated by alloimmunization, neonatal and perinatal hemolysis, and the detection and management of late anemia following HDFN. Dr. Bahr also served in a leading role on the Neonatal Workgroup for the multidisciplinary HDFN clinical practice guideline initiative supported by the Department of Defense Combat Casualty Care Research Program, organized by the THOR Network, and developed in collaboration with The Allo Hope Foundation. He led the presentation of the workgroup’s proposed guideline statements for neonatal HDFN management during the expert consensus conference, helping shape evidence-based recommendations for the care of newborns affected by HDFN.
Dr. Bahr has also partnered with The Allo Hope Foundation to translate complex neonatal HDFN care into practical education for families and clinicians, including a two-part Allo Podcast interview and a remote lecture for clinicians at AIC Kijabe Hospital in Kenya. He brings to the Medical Advisory Board deep expertise in newborn care, neonatal hematology, transfusion medicine, biostatistics, and clinical research.
