Sarah’s Story
They found anti-E antibodies during my 7th and 8th pregnancy. I had low titers, but they were rising, so I was induced at 38 weeks with baby #7. Atticus was fine during his entire pregnancy and his blood work looked great after he was born. He is now a happy, healthy 4 year old.
With baby #8 My anti-E antibodies were too low to titer, so I delivered when I went into labor at 39 weeks. Tekla’s blood work looked great too! She is now 3 months old and doing great. My latest test after her delivery now shows anti-D antibodies that are also too low to titer.
Do you have any advice or encouragement for families dealing with HDFN?
With #7 everything was new and uncharted. Living in a new place when I was pregnant with #8 was stressful – they handled everything so differently. I would say to try and relax and breathe. Try to enjoy what you can and do not let the anxiety swallow you whole or you will miss so much of the process of being pregnant and getting to know your little one as they grow inside you.
If you could say something to health care providers everywhere, what would it be?
I wish that there was a standard of care that was followed everywhere. It is so stressful when different providers don’t want to do the ultrasounds and blood work because “it’s probably fine” but the previous time my providers stressed how important those things were.
