Taylor’s Anti-D and Anti-C Story

Taylor’s Anti-D and Anti-C Story

Antibodies: Anti-C + Anti-D

I developed the anti-D antibody when I was pregnant with my second child. After pregnancy, doctors really did not tell me what would be in store for my next pregnancy. Although I wish they would have, I am thankful for my HDFN warrior. She became anemic at 30 weeks gestation. She had three intrauterine blood transfusions. Then she was delivered by an emergency caesarean at 35 weeks gestation. During my caesarean I developed the anti-C antibody. My Baby was in the NICU for a week and then sent home. After birth she needed three more transfusions over the first 8 weeks of life.

How can health care providers help?
Warn parents of the risks and processes of reproducing with alloimmunization.

How can scientists help?
For some sort of antibody blocker so they will not cross the placenta.

What would you tell other parents?
It is physically, mentally, and emotionally hard but so worth it at the end of your journey.
